Our unique and interactive conference encourages people with an interest in diversity and inclusion as much as diversity professionals to break away from the boredom of traditional conferences with a high degree of participation – perfect for those who value networking, interactive workshops and experiential learning.

Now held in six Canadian cities – Calgary, Halifax, Mississauga, Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver  – we have some exciting and innovative sessions planned that will bring as much learning to highly experienced diversity professionals as it will to those who are just discovering the difference that inclusive practices can make to their organizations, teams, and employees.

2017 UnConference theme:

The intersectionality of diversity and wellness in the workplace

With more than 75 years combined of experience Michael BachRenée Bazile-JonesCathy Gallagher-LouisyDeanna MatzankeZakeana Reid, and Susan Rogers will be your guides for this journey. We are excited to share what we have learned and look forward to learning from participants.

UnConference guiding principles:

  • Create conversations.
  • Create learning moments.
  • Create layered learning opportunities for practitioners of all levels.

Question to be explored: What is the connection between a well workplace and diversity?

The 2017 UnConference will explore what a well workplace is, how an unwell workplace impacts individuals based on their diverse identities and how to recognize this. We then create synergies between diversity and inclusion strategies and wellness programs and strategies to benefit the individual and the organization.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the broad concept of wellness in the workplace.
  • Understand how “unwellness” impacts diverse identities in the workplace.
  • Recognize the observable signs and markers of diversity debt and key performance indicators for an organization.
  • Understand the need for integration of strategies for wellness and diversity and inclusion to reduce diversity stress and contribute to an inclusive and “well” environment for everyone!
