See Different

Between 2015-2017, CCDI lead a charitable initiative called See Different, a high school diversity and inclusion leadership program. The See Different in-school program empowered students by providing them with the knowledge and tools to make meaningful change in their communities. Through a series of ten workshops led by a See Different facilitator, students were guided to explore the concepts of identity, diversity and inclusion, power and privilege, conflict management, peer mediation, allyship, and more. During the second half of the program, students put these skills to work by designing a school-wide initiative, a project or campaign that addressed a diversity and inclusion challenge relevant to their school community.

Due to challenges in remaining financially sustainable, the See Different in-school program operations came to a close in the spring of 2017. However, See Different was transformed into six free online Teacher Toolkits. The purpose of these toolkits is to empower more educators across Canada to bring diversity and inclusion content into their classrooms.  Each of the toolkits are modelled after the in-person workshops and include professional development resources, facilitator manuals, student handouts and a corresponding PowerPoint presentation.
